At Open Upright MRI, we assist many patients who have had unpleasant experiences at other facilities. This has a lot to do with the way they are scanned. Typically, at other facilities, a person will lie down and have something fastened over them that makes them feel restrained.
A Comfortable MRI Experience
Here, we do things differently. We really want you to have a sense of understanding and control while you have your exam performed. We never use anything to restrain you unless for some reason you request it. While we couldn’t fully restrain you even if you wanted us to, we can help stabilize parts of your body. We focus on helping you get into a comfortable position so you can stay there. We have learned that people who feel anxious do so because they are not in full control of their environment.
Due to the way our machine is set up, at least in most circumstances, a person could get up and walk away from the test without any help from another person if desired. (unless they NEED help of course). Naturally, this would ruin the test but here we are referencing the control factor. We value your feedback so please let us know if you can think of anything that we can do to make you more comfortable during the procedure.
We have found that relaxed, comfortable patients can hold still easier, receiving the best, motion-free exam possible. Sometimes for certain body parts, we have to recline you back (mostly just lower extremities). When doing so, we have a belt that we fasten around you for safety. You have the power and ability to unfasten this belt so you do not feel restrained. It just keeps you safe as we move the MRI bed. In this position, you would need to call on us to help you get out if you wanted to, but we have a speaker and can hear you if you call on us (the machine is making noise so be sure to speak up).
Hopefully, this information will help you prepare for your examination. We look forward to working with you.
